Therapy for autistic people in WA and ID

Our goal in therapy is to help you make a life that fits you the best, not what fits society or those around you best. That would only prompt more masking and cause more harm. Some of the therapeutic focus might be around defining what about yourself is your “true self” and what is “masking” (the face that you put on so that you can blend into the world around you more effectively to protect yourself).

We will also look into the things that make you more vulnerable to stress, such as having difficulties understanding what your body is telling you. For example, you don’t realize you’re hungry until you get to what most people would call “starving.” Or maybe you have difficulties realizing that you are in pain or getting overwhelmed until you experience “the straw that broke the camel's back” and your mood plummets for reasons you can’t explain.

We’ll work together to help you develop guidelines that make sense to you, so that you can play these games, go to these conventions, and embrace this culture without becoming completely exhausted and melting/shutting down. I opened Roll for Initiative Counseling to focus on helping autistic people (diagnosed or not) in the geek culture who are struggling with burnout, shutdowns, meltdowns, intrusive thoughts, depression, anxiety, and more. I do NOT do ABA services or partner in any way, shape, or form with Autism Speaks.
