Online therapy for autistic geeks and gamers

Do you constantly feel like you’re slightly out of sync with most people? Maybe you frequently take things too literally. Maybe you constantly make movie reference quotes, but no one ever knows what you’re talking about. You shut down when you’re overwhelmed and you’ve been told that means you have depression—but you aren’t quite sure that’s right. One minute you’re in control of your emotions, and the next minute you’re lashing out at others. You don’t understand why you’re so overwhelmed this time, when you have previously handled situations like this with ease?

• Do you want to engage in geek group activities but find yourself frozen?

• Do you try to communicate with others and find yourself both misunderstanding and being misunderstood?

• Are there times when you want to be up doing something but you find yourself too shut down to even get out of bed?

• Have you found yourself volunteering constantly to do things that—deep down—you really don’t want to do?

• Are you constantly so overwhelmed by intense lights, sounds, smells, tastes, or touches that you become too anxious to do the things that you really want to do?

You’ve made it here, which means that you are ready for change. I understand that the first step can be one of the hardest parts of making a change. In our work together, I can help you:

• Ease out of burnout.

• Feel more comfortable engaging in the things that you enjoy.

• Learn more strategies for communicating your needs with others so you can have more positive relationships.

• Find what helps you recharge and care for yourself so you can feel better.

• Be able to enjoy Comic-con, or other similar events, because you’ll know how to prepare. You’ll know how to be in groups of people without getting so overwhelmed that you have to leave the event and then be wiped out for days afterward.

I’m an autistic therapist. I was diagnosed later in life and have come to understand how much this affected everything in my life: from work, to friendships, to schooling. What I thought was depression was actually shutdowns followed by intense masking to “pull myself out of it.” I know what it is like to go to an event that you’re really looking forward to, only to feel on edge throughout the event and then be completely wiped out for the next couple of days. I am aware of the harm this causes: how it creates more stress and results in feeling overwhelmed by almost anything.

READY FOR CHANGE?

If you are ready for change, then I am here to support you. To quote Babylon 5: “You have the opportunity, here and now, to choose, to become something greater and nobler and more difficult than you have been before. The universe does not offer such chances often.” Schedule a free 15-minute video consultation so we can start getting to know each other and determine if we would be a good fit for therapy. Let’s open those communicators!
